There are so many opportunities for kids to experiment and play with technology, but preparing students to be creators instead of consumers doesn’t only happen in front of a computer! Tiny Techies will help students build computational thinking and problem solving skills, be creative, and practice working together. In an increasingly technology driven world, these are all skills that will help them as they grow and prepare for jobs that don’t yet exist. The best part is that we’ll do this through hands-on activities that will get them moving, building, and thinking!
Tiny Techies will be led by Samantha Dahlby, a Cedar Valley Montessori School parent, former software engineer, and the current K-12 Education Coordinator at NewBoCo. She loves merging fun, engaging activities with mini educational lessons to get kids asking “why” and digging deeper. She also looks for educational opportunities in the many tech toys that are available now.
Examples of activities we will be doing:
- Where are the computers around us?
- Pattern recognition and breaking down problems
- What is electricity? Explore with things like conductive playdough, littleBits, and Snap Circuits
- Adventures with a Cubetto robot
- Explore programming concepts (functions, loops, decisions) through movement and food
Tiny Techies will meet on Mondays from 2:30 – 3:15 at Cedar Valley Montessori School. The program will start Monday, January 21st and skip Monday, March 18th due to a prior work conflict. The program will meet for 14 weeks, ending April 29th. If we need to miss any additional Mondays due to weather or instructor illness, we will make up weeks in May during the same times.
3-6 year olds are welcome. This studio program is limited to 10 students.
Cost is $12/class.
Payment is due the 1st of every month.
Questions can be sent to Samantha@NewBo.Co.
