Computer Science for ALL
This June, the Iowa Legislature passed HS 2629 - a bill that included new requirements for Computer Science education in our state. By July 1, 2022, all high schools must offer a Computer Science class, and elementary and middle schools must incorporate Computer Science standards by July 1, 2023.
However, over 50% of schools in Iowa don’t have a Computer Science teacher ready to teach these classes. That’s why we need your help.
Since 2017, NewBoCo has trained 800 teachers in Iowa how to teach Computer Science who have taught more than 35,000 students. 77% of these teachers are from rural school districts and 25% come from high-needs schools. At NewBoCo, our goal is that EVERY school in Iowa has a confident Computer Science teacher. Not just schools in Des Moines and Cedar Rapids. Not just schools with talented and gifted program. Not just schools who already have access to extensive STEM resources.
Every. School.
Help us support Iowa’s teachers and students by donating to support our Computer Science teacher training program. Together, we can prepare our schools to be ready for the impact of this new legislation.
Your tax-deductible donation helps us with our commitment to never pass the cost of these trainings on to our teachers. Donate today to give students across Iowa the gift of Computer Science!
