Train the teachers you already have

NewBoCo’s Code.org partnership means we can offer professional learning programs for existing teachers, bringing computer science into even more classrooms

We know Iowa needs more computer science teachers for every child to have the opportunity to learn future ready skills.

Thanks to NewBoCo’s Code.org Partnership, you can train your existing teachers who want to begin teaching computer science here instead of finding and hiring a new teacher.

Attending our professional learning programs this summer can prepare your teachers to teach computer science starting this fall. In Iowa, over 2,000 teachers from rural and metro school districts have participated in this program over the last seven years, reaching more than 96,000 students. Most of these teachers had no prior experience teaching computer science before taking our workshops.

Seats are available for our 2024–2025 Code.org Professional Learning Programs. The middle and high school programs begin with a five-day, in-person summer workshop, and continue with additional, virtual follow-up workshops throughout the school year. This year, the summer workshops will be held June 24–28 and hosted at the Landus Headquarters in Des Moines! We are very thankful for our industry hosts, and for educators to learn more about one of Iowa’s important employers during the week. One-day professional development workshops for elementary teachers are available regionally year-round and can be hosted at your school for a group of at least 10 educators.

This year is particularly exciting for Iowa as we were recognized nationally for being ranked 7th in the nation for computer science education in the 2023 State of CS Report. NewBoCo has been a critical supporter of educators to make this possible, and we’re thrilled to welcome more educators to our programs this year.

To learn about other professional development opportunities through NewBoCo or otherwise in Iowa, join our newsletter or email us at k12@newbo.co. We would love to work with you and your teachers to help bring quality computer science education to your school!
