CoderDojo is a free, hands-on program designed for kids in kindergarten through 5th grade who are curious about STEM. Children can explore a variety of science, technology, engineering, and math-themed stations at their own pace, with friendly mentors available to help them get started. It’s all about learning through creativity, curiosity, and play. More about CoderDojo.

 

This Sessions Special Guest: Iowa Children’s Museum

Join us and the Iowa Children’s Museum for Ramps and Pathways. Students and families will engineer ramps (or inclined planes) to propel balls and experiment with forces. Children will use various blocks, balls and planes to build ramps that are capable of moving a ball without pushing it!

Please register for this event so we can adequately prepare. This event is capped at 40 participants.

About CoderDojo

CoderDojo is a free program for kids from kindergarten to 5th grade.

Children can freely explore any STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics) themed stations, with mentors available to help them get started, allowing your child to learn and explore on their own.

Popular, hands-on stations include activities like:

  • Hour of Code: Engage in self-guided activities tailored to your coding comfort level. Activities include Scratch Block Programming, live coding strategy games, and more.
  • Turing Tumble: a logic puzzle where students work to solve problems using levers and marbles. 
  • Snap Circuits: Learn basic engineering, electronics, and circuitry concepts using easy-to-connect components.
  • Microscopes: Kids can explore biology up close with a self-guided microscope with over 200 slides.
  • Drones: Kids can maneuver drones (with adult supervision) around obstacle courses.
