Engineering, Creativity, and Entrepreneurship for Kids!

NewBoCo is excited to welcome Iowa PBS and Almost Famous Popcorn this week! CoderDojo is a free K–5 STEM program under NewBoCo K–12 Education that encourages creativity, fosters entrepreneurship, and helps kids learn to code. Your child will explore different STEM-based stations, that promotes hands-on learning and, most importantly, fun! We encourage registration so the K-12 team can best prepare each station. Thank you!

Stations this Week:

Iowa PBS

Practice creativity and coding with Ozobots and Iowa PBS! Ozobots are electronic robots that can be programmed with paper and markers. Learn how you can train these simple robots to draw pictures, solve a maze and more!

Hour of Code

Engage in self-guided activities tailored to your coding comfort level. Activities include Scratch Block Programming, which allows you to easily build stories and games using “blocks” of code. You can also play Code Combat, an innovative live coding strategy game for beginners. Learn Python or JavaScript as you defeat ogres, solve mazes, and level up.

Snap Circuits

Learn basic engineering, electronics and circuitry concepts using Snap Circuits! Snap Circuits use easy-to-connect components to assemble electronic circuits on a simple “rows-and-columns” base grid. What you build functions just like the printed circuit boards found in most electronic products!

3D Printing (NEW!)

Let’s build and learn with the help of computers and principles of automation! At this station, your kids will learn the basics of 3D printing in our on-sight Maker Lab. Your kids will even print their very own 1-inch Among Us crewmate, and then paint it!

**Please have your kids wear clothes fit for painting for this station! We’ll be using acrylic paint, which is washable, though.)**
