On the first and third Saturdays of the month during the COVID-19 Pandemic, from 1:30-2:30pm, NewBoCo will host Virtual CoderDojo, a free program for students in 1st through 5th grade to learn STEM skills online.RSVP for CoderDojo
The 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month
1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m
"I had two students who attended for the first time and both loved it. We did Circuits and Scratch coding and both girls were able to understand the interface and had great interaction with the mentors. Both loved the experience."
We are going virtual for now! CoderDojo is a free K-5 STEAM program under NewBoCo K-12 Education that encourages creativity, fosters entrepreneurship, and helps kids learn to code.
Attendees are welcomed at 1:30 pm and will experience virtual "stations" for online STEM activities . Virtual sessions will be 1 hour, and will use Remo, a virtual platform that will allow students to move between stations. The event link will be sent to registered participants prior to the session. Mentors will get participants started with an introduction and prompt, then students can share their screens if they need help during the session.
Spots are limited so that we can provide adequate support on the content as well as with the virtual environment. We are excited to provide this support to students during the pandemic, and continue a version of our popular CoderDojo events!
New to coding? These lessons recorded by Alison, our Assistant Director, can help you become a pro at using Scratch, so when the next 'Dojo rolls around you're ready!
One of our new activities for Virtual CoderDojo is Remote Robots. Students can program a few different robots virtually, including one of our Hummingbird Robots. When this activity is available, you can watch live below!
