1 Million Cups: Twister’s Cafe

Hear from a company new to the Iowa business community, Twister’s Cafe! Twister’s Cafe traces its roots to Los Angeles in 2001, when founder Tom Straw realized that many of the off-the-shelf dog treats he had been feeding his own dogs were high in chemicals and artificial preservatives. It struck Tom that our canine friends deserve natural, whole foods just as we do. So he began making his frozen dog treats from body-healthy whole foods.
Fast forward 21 years to April 30th, 2022: Twister’s Cafe has its grand opening in Austin, Texas. Tom has named the cafe after one of his beloved dogs. The company’s ambition is to not only sell its ready-eat frozen dog treats in this store but to also tap the markets of other pet-friendly restaurants, coffee shops, sports facilities, obedience schools, and beyond. Twister’s Cafe also markets the treats unprepared, ready to take home, mix, and freeze at a pet owner’s convenience, even offering a monthly subscription model.
And as of October of this year, Twister’s Cafe has brought its frozen dog treats to the Corridor. At this event, Tom hopes to receive feedback from you!

About 1 Million Cups Cedar Rapids
The Kauffman Foundation developed 1 Million Cups (1MC) on the notion that entrepreneurs discover solutions and network over a million cups of coffee. We welcome early-stage businesses and established companies facing interesting challenges to present their companies. Typically, one or several representatives present before a panel of experts. They seek advice and then engage the audience in a question-and-answer session to encourage collaborative and honest conversations. We also feature expert speakers, founder fireside interviews, and explorations of business failures and the lessons learned!
The Cedar Rapids chapter is the sixth in the U.S., and events take place almost every Wednesday. Every event is free, and everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend!
