Position Summary
NewBoCo is looking to hire an Events Coordinator who is excited to build world-class experiences for attendees, sponsors and partners that will lead to explosive growth of entrepreneurship and computer science education in Iowa. This individual will work with members of our education and entrepreneurship teams to develop, lead and implement the organization’s events. This includes leadership of EntreFEST, our two day entrepreneurship conference, and Computer Science Professional Development Week. Both events are multi day, high visibility, statewide events. This position is accountable for ensuring that all of our events are well-run, high quality experiences for our attendees. This position requires a person who is organized, detail oriented, results-driven, and accountable. Who is able to and enjoys collaborating with a number of NewBoCo team members, community partners, and stake-holders.
Responsibilities:
Work with NewBoCo staff to create a yearly event calendar of missionally aligned events
Provide the vision and leadership for all NewBoCo events
Help extend the NewBoCo brand by periodically attending local, regional, and national events to represent NewBoCo and identify best practices.
Accountable for execution of regular weekly events held in the NewBoCo building (ex. 1 Million Cups, CoderDojo, Business Growth Series) as well as statewide annual events and NewBoCo’s largest event, EntreFEST (a two day annual conference).
Coordinate efforts with Marketing and Development teams for communication and sponsor support.
Every other aspect of producing the event: logistics, venues, building the schedule, technology, supplies, communication, marketing, media inquiries.
Assist in the recruiting of speakers, presenters, and keynotes.
Attend and support the event operations, including registration, wayfinding, and onsite problem solving.
Post-event teardown: clean up after events, putting supplies away, identifying supplies that need to be restocked;
Ensure that registration and other data is correctly captured and managed.
Identify, recruit, and coordinate volunteers
Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience building and leading similar, community-based events, ideally from startup to scale-up
A portfolio of world-class programs and events that showcase your creativity and program management talents
You relish creating bar-raising, trailblazing, surprisingly delightful programs and events
Experience building and maintaining event budgets
Demonstrated ability to build partnerships, lead coalitions, raise money, manage sponsorships
A curiosity to experience other community events and regularly seek out fresh event formats and excellent speakers to integrate them into existing work.
Detail-oriented person with strong problem solving skills
A self-starter with a flexible personality to work with a variety of people in sometimes ambiguous situations
Highly organized individual able to keep multiple projects and tasks on track at once
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Knowledge & Skills:
An appreciation for the mission of NewBoCo and shared core values
Experience working in a mid-range, fast-paced, nonprofit environment
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent training/experience
Knowledge in current and evolving trends in the events
Understanding of best practices in events
Reasonable expertise in using social media (Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, etc.)
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, Google for Business
Expertise in CRM systems
Some details to know:
This is a full-time, salaried role commensurate with experience
Requires flexibility to work limited evening and weekend hours (occasional, but may occur throughout the year) as needed for meetings, projects and events
You’ll be required to pass a background check, and enter an agreement to safeguard proprietary information of NewBoCo and our clients, as a part of the on-boarding process
