Learn more about 1 Million Cups \n  \nThis weeks presenter: Ed Leighton-Dick with KingFisher Data\nAs a small business owner\, you’re called upon to do more with technology than ever before. Cloud\, AI\, PCI\, HIPAA\, NIST\, GDPR\, CPRA\, IDPA… the list goes on and on. Yet most IT services companies only work with a fraction of the technology you need\, leaving you to work out the rest\, or they won’t work with you at all because you’re small. It shouldn’t be like that. We’re building a new type of technology partner – one that meets you where you are\, meets all of your needs\, avoids the “geekspeak\,” and keeps it simple and affordable. \n\n\nStandard Program Schedule: \n\n8:30-9:00 a.m. Coffee and Conversation\, Informal Networking\n9:00- 9:40 a.m. Introductions and Presentations\n9:40-10:00 a.m. Presenter Feedback\, Q&A\, Community Announcements

SUMMARY:CoderDojo with StarLabs
DESCRIPTION:CoderDojo is a free program for kids from kindergarten to 5th grade.\n\nChildren can freely explore any STEM (Science\, Technology\, Engineering\, & Mathematics) themed stations\, with mentors available to help them get started\, allowing your child to learn and explore on their own. \nThe Star Lab Planetarium with Heidi from Curiosity Path \nThe StarLab planetarium experience includes pre-programmed movies and demonstrations on a variety of space topics. The dome can fit up to 30 people\, a combination of adults and children. Participants are expected to sit cross-legged on the floor. The dome can accommodate participants with walkers\, wheelchairs\, and regular chairs. \nHands-On Stations:\n\nHour of Code: Engage in self-guided activities tailored to your coding comfort level. Activities include Scratch Block Programming\, which allows you to easily build stories and games using “blocks” of code. You can also play Codecombat\, an innovative live coding strategy game for beginners. Learn Python or JavaScript as you defeat ogres\, solve mazes\, and level up.\nTuring Tumble: a logic puzzle where students work to solve problems using levers and marbles. It helps kids understand computer science concepts without computers! Create your own designs or work through the ‘challenge’ booklet for a little more structure to the play\nSnap Circuits: Learn basic engineering\, electronics\, and circuitry concepts using Snap Circuits! Snap Circuits use easy-to-connect components to assemble electronic circuits on a simple “rows-and-columns” base grid that you build functions like the printed circuit boards in most electronic products.\nMicroscopes: Kids can explore biology up close with a self-guided microscope with over 200 slides.\nDrones: Kids can maneuver drones (with adult supervision) around obstacle courses.\n\n  \nIf you will need disability-related accommodations in order to participate in this event\, please contact Community Programs Manager Melissa Silver at 319-214-5646 or melissa@newbo.co. Early requests are strongly encouraged to allow sufficient time to meet your access needs. \nPrograms like this happen because of sponsorships and generous donations from YOU\, thank you! \nDonate to support K12 STEM Education \n  \nPlease register for this event\, so we can adequately prepare! \n

SUMMARY:CoderDojo with Assata Worrell
DESCRIPTION:CoderDojo is a free program for kids from kindergarten to 5th grade.\n\nChildren can freely explore any STEM (Science\, Technology\, Engineering\, & Mathematics) themed stations\, with mentors available to help them get started\, allowing your child to learn and explore on their own. \nAssata Worrell: Scientific Illustrations! \nAssata Caldwell Worrell is the Founder of LEGACY BioStudios\, LLC and she will guide students through learning how to illustrate various visual representations of scientific subjects\, including plants\, animals\, insects\, and fungi. If there is a particular scientific subject a student wants to draw\, they can bring it into CoderDojo and Assata can help guide them in drawing it. Students will receive their very own drawing field notebook. \n\nHands-On Stations:\n\nHour of Code: Engage in self-guided activities tailored to your coding comfort level. \n

SUMMARY:CoderDojo: Propagation with Community Partners
DESCRIPTION:CoderDojo is a free program for kids from kindergarten to 5th grade.\n\nChildren can freely explore any STEM (Science\, Technology\, Engineering\, & Mathematics) themed stations\, with mentors available to help them get started\, allowing your child to learn and explore on their own. \nAt this month’s CoderDojo we welcome ISU Extension & Outreach Linn County Master Gardner. \nStudents will focus on understanding another way to propagate plants by planting rooted cuttings into little pots with dirt. Students will be able to take a plant with them after the event. \nHands-On Stations:\n\nHour of Code: Engage in self-guided activities tailored to your coding comfort level. \nAt this CoderDojo we welcome ISU Extension & Outreach Linn County Master Gardners & 4H. \nStudents will get a chance to take a guess at what certain seeds will become once they grow fully. We will also be dissecting seeds to understand what they look like inside. Our final project will be contructing a birdfeeder (with seeds) out of a pinecone that students can take with them. \nHands-On Stations:\n\nHour of Code: Engage in self-guided activities tailored to your coding comfort level.
