SUMMARY:1 Million Cups Cedar Rapids: Randori Life
DESCRIPTION:This Week:\nRandori Life was founded by Greg Happel on the belief that personal growth shouldn’t feel like running on a treadmill to nowhere. Too often\, traditional self-improvement methods overlook the diversity of how our brains work—focusing on rigid routines and one-size-fits-all solutions that lead to burnout rather than balance. \nDrawing inspiration from martial arts philosophy and the principles of neurodiversity\, Randori Life helps individuals stop fighting themselves and start working with their own minds. Its approach shifts the focus from a “have to” mentality to a “want to” mindset\, offering practical training rooted in awareness\, discipline\, and purpose. Rather than prescribing quick fixes\, Randori Life teaches both what to do and why—empowering people to move through life with clarity\, confidence\, and self-compassion. https://randorilife.com/ \n\nProgram schedule\n\n8:45 to 9:00 – Coffee & Conversation\n9:00 to 9:45 – Official Program\n9:45 to 10:00 – Q&A\n\nIf you will need disability-related accommodations in order to participate in this event\, please contact Event Coordinator Jan@newbo.co . SUMMARY:CoderDojo with Matthew 25
DESCRIPTION:CoderDojo is a free program for kids from kindergarten to 5th grade.\n\nChildren can freely explore any STEM (Science\, Technology\, Engineering\, & Mathematics) themed stations\, with mentors available to help them get started\, allowing your child to learn and explore on their own. \nMatthew 25 Urban Farm and Education \nKendal of Matthew 25’s Urban Farm and Education programming will guide students on creating seed bombs. Seed bombs are spherical objects made of dirt and seeds that can be thrown onto land to grow vegetation. Students will be encouraged to take the seed bombs with them to plant somewhere in the community. We will also encourage them to document where they planted them so we can create a digital map to track the seeds progress throughout the year. \nHands-On Stations:\n\nHour of Code: Engage in self-guided activities tailored to your coding comfort level. Activities include Scratch Block Programming\, which allows you to easily build stories and games using “blocks” of code. You can also play Codecombat\, an innovative live coding strategy game for beginners. Snap Circuits use easy-to-connect components to assemble electronic circuits on a simple “rows-and-columns” base grid that you build functions like the printed circuit boards in most electronic products.\nMicroscopes: Kids can explore biology up close with a self-guided microscope with over 200 slides.\nDrones: Kids can maneuver drones (with adult supervision) around obstacle courses.\n\n  \nIf you will need disability-related accommodations in order to participate in this event\, please contact Community Programs Manager Melissa Silver at 319-214-5646 or melissa@newbo.co.
