SUMMARY:CS Modules: Focus on Data
DESCRIPTION:Focus on Data\nThis unit empowers students to use data to solve problems by engaging with computer science as a medium for creativity\, communication\, problem-solving\, and fun. Educators will learn about the updates to this unit over the past couple of years as well as how this unit can integrate with mathematics. \nCost breakdown:\nOne Workshop: $30\nFour Workshops for one educator will receive a $20 discount.\nFour workshops for up to 10 teachers from a district would be a discount of $100 to be $1\,100 total. \nCS Modules:\nNewBoCo Education\, in partnership with Code.org\, is excited to offer four virtual training modules for 5th–9th-grade educators across the country. These sessions are designed to empower teachers with tools and resources that bring computer science into their classrooms through engaging\, hands-on units. \n\nRegister through the CS Modules Page\n \nIf you will need disability-related accommodations in order to participate in this event\, please contact Assistant Director of K12 Education\, Alison Mhor at alison@newbo.co. Early requests are strongly encouraged to allow sufficient time to meet your access needs. \nShare with a friend or colleague:

SUMMARY:Fun with Data!
DESCRIPTION:This professional learning workshop is part of our Interactive Games and Projects for High School Students series.\nEach workshop is comprised of two sessions presented virtually from 6-8pm. See all workshops by visiting the series page here. \nSession 1: Tuesday\, April 14\nUsing a data table from App Lab\, we will incorporate multiple lists to create a guessing game. For example\, using data about US States\, pull columns representing state names and images. We will choose a random image and have users identify the state. What fun! \nSession 2: Tuesday\, April 21\nIn this fun session\, we will attempt to teach App Lab how we are best motivated. Using generated lists of motivation quotes\, we will randomly select a quote and tell App Lab if we are motivated. Using that input\, our code will slowly learn and work to provide more similar quotes to those liked by the user. If time allows\, we will also learn how to store data in App Lab from use to use (meaning the training we provide will not reset each time we press run.) \n  \nAbout the Series\nInteractive Games and Projects for High School Students is a professional development course designed for high school educators teaching a general Computer Science course and/or Computer Science Principles. In this training\, we will develop various projects in Code.org’s App Lab that teach students to use variables\, conditionals\, and create functions at an introductory level. \nEach project will be taught at an introductory level suitable for first exposure of the concepts while also including opportunities for advanced students to extend the complexity. Teachers will leave with working code that can be expanded by students into larger projects. Educators will explore strategies for integrating projects that reinforce key programming concepts while fostering creativity and problem-solving. \n  \nCost breakdown\nOne Workshop: $60\nReceive a discount and register for both for $100.\nDiscounts available for pairs and groups of 10 or more. Contact k12@newbo.co for group pricing. \nShare with a friend or colleague:
