Future City Essay Judging

January 21, 2023

A closeup of a Future City city built with bottles and painted papier-mâché.

Students design a futuristic city with innovative solutions to some of today’s most pressing issues.

1 of the 4 pillars of this important task is the city essay. (The other 3 pillars are the city model, the group presentation, and the live question and answer.) The essay is the first to be delivered and sets the tone for the live presentations that follow a week later.

In their essays, groups outline the social, political, and economic positions of their future cities. They explore aspects of life like common professions, recreation and entertainment, transportation, education systems, ecology, form of governance, social policies, and anything else they can imagine! Volunteer judges score the essays on criteria such as depth of detail, height of imagination, and feasibility of processes and solutions.

Essay’s are judged asynchronously on January 21. As a volunteer, you can participate from anywhere in the world!

Get involved and help encourage middle schoolers from all around the country in science, technology, and their imaginations. The students will truly inspire you!
