Startup Bootcamp

The perfect start for your entrepreneurial journey

Our 6-week bootcamp is for entrepreneurs and people interested in learning the fundamentals of entrepreneurship. This program is ideal for early-stage entrepreneurs and for employees of innovative companies that want to be more entrepreneurial in their day-to-day work.

The program offers you facilitated learning on a variety of topics important to entrepreneurial thinking, and will require you to take action and execute on a plan. You will join a community dedicated to assisting you throughout the program that includes Iowa Startup Accelerator’s diverse and experienced mentor network.

Curriculum

Agile for Entrepreneurs (90 minutes) 6 to 7:30 pm

Get a deeper understanding of how to implement agile for small teams and projects. You’ll design the scrum board and backlog for the entire 6-week program and understand how to effectively visualize your work, track progress, identify roadblocks, and manage day-to-day activities.

Business Modeling for Entrepreneurs (90 minutes) May 9th from 7:30 to 9 pm

Get an overview of business modeling strategies and understand what is required for a complete business model. You will learn how to craft a value proposition, identify target customers, building relationships, and how to discover effective sales and marketing channels.

Action Required:

  1. Read the book Business Model Generation or complete online coursework related to the Business Modelling
  2. Identify a problem that you think people have
  3. 60-minute 1-on-1 meeting with facilitator
Finding Your First Customers (3 hours) 6 to 9 pm

This is a hands-on workshop designed to give you effective tactics for identifying prospective customers, scheduling meetings for research, uncovering real world problems, and proposing viable solutions.

Action required:

  1. Conduct 10 customer interviews and collect comprehensive data
  2. Propose a solution
  3. 60-minute 1-on-1 meeting with facilitator
Design Thinking for Entrepreneurs (3 hours) 6 to 9 pm

Get an overview of the 5 stages of the design thinking process: Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and Test. Learn effective strategies for solutions-based problem solving. We will be heavily focused on the first three stages.

Action required:

  1. Complete 3 immersive experiences to understand the problem, empathize with people with the problem, and journal the experiences
  2. Define the problem
  3. Ideate 2-3 solutions to the problem
  4. 60-minute 1-on-1 meeting with facilitator
Rapid Prototyping for Entrepreneurs (3 hours) 6 to 9 pm

Learn about the technologies and resources entrepreneurs use to prototype solutions to problems. This will be an interactive workshop in Vault Labs where we will work through your ideas for solutions, discuss usefulness and feasibility, and begin to prototype a solution.

Action required:

  1. Lab work time to complete a physical prototype of your product.
  2. 60-minute 1-on-1 meeting with facilitator
Sales and Marketing Plan Design for Startups (3 hours) 6 to 9 pm

Gain a deeper understanding of sales and marketing strategies for new products and design a go-to market strategy for a product. Get an overview of types of sales and marketing plans and how to design a comprehensive plan for a product.

Action required:

  1. Create a sales and marketing plan for a product
  2. 60-minute panel review of marketing plan
Financial Modeling for Startups (3 hours) 6 to 9 pm

Gain a deeper understanding of business finance and how to design a financial model for a product. Get an overview of types of financial models and how to create one for a product.

Action required:

  1. Create a financial model for a product
  2. 60-minute panel review for financial model

  8. Understand a diverse set of go-to market strategies
  9. Understand financial models for an early stage company
  10. Understand what Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and metrics need to be tracked and how to track them
  11. Gather and present marketplace evidence, and reach a reasonable conclusion about the data
  12. Determine if there’s sufficient evidence to support proceeding with the business opportunity
  13. Determine if you’re a candidate for Iowa Startup Accelerator, our other programs, or investment options

  • Six facilitated workshops (18 hours)
  • Four 1-on-1 expert office hours (4 hours)
  • Two Expert Panel Review Sessions (2 hours)
  • Access to a private online communication channel for real-time engagement throughout the program with experts.
  • Access to physical work space in Vault Coworking and Collaboration Space and Vault Labs for two months.

Some scholarships may be available for candidates with financial needs. Apply above using the form, filling out the questions pertaining to financial aid.

Scholarships for financial need will be given based on both the perceived need and our available funding to provide them.
